“Now that Grossberg has marked JHK as a human gammaretrovirus variant, the 1997 paper can be seen to confirm the findings of Lombardi et al. (2009) and Lo et al. (2010). The virus JHK is of the correct morphology, formation and diameter as the viruses found in ME patients from those studies. The new sequence in the GenBank also resembles a polytropic xenotropic MLV related virus. Furthermore, as this virus was detected in a sample taken prior to the creation of the 22Rv1 cell line in 1999 and collection of the primary prostate tumor in 1992, it invalidates the paper from John Coffin that claims to have discovered the origin of the XMRV variant of human gamma retroviruses.”
I 1997 skal Dr. Sidney Grossberg ha publisert en studie om funn av ett nytt retrovirus som ble kalt JHK etter finansering av CFIDS. JHK retroviruset skal ha blitt derivert fra en B-lymfoblastoid cellelinje (JHK-3) som stammet fra en 40 år gammel kvinne med CFS. I perioden mellom 1989 og 1990 hadde det blitt tatt blodprøver av denne pasienten til flere ulike studieforsøk. Tidlig i 1991 rapporterte grossberg om at denne cellelinjen produserte ett enkelt retrovirus i tillegg til EBV (kyssesyke)-virus.

«Our current research deals with the molecular, immunological, and biological characterization of a new human RNA virus that replicates in human B-lymphoblastoid cells. The virus, designated JHKV, is an enveloped, relatively fragile particle containing RNA, reverse transcriptase, and prominent, knobbed glycoprotein projections. Although the JHK virus resembles a retrovirus (but 35% smaller than most other retroviruses), it is clearly not like any of the known human retroviruses (human immunodeficiency virus or human T-lymphotropic virus), as determined either by polymerase chain reactions or electron microscopy. The JHK-3 B-lymphoblastoid cell line that constitutively produces the JHK virus (and the Epstein-Barr virus as well) has the antigenic markers of immature B-lymphocytes by flow cytometry.»
“The possible etiological role of the JHK virus in diseases that may involve B-lymphocytes, such as leukemia, lymphoma, chronic fatigue syndrome or immuno-dysfunctional states, remains to be determined.” (Grossberg).
